SLAMMERS LOOK TO OVERPOWER WTP

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS - The Oakton Slammers will will take on WTP for the second time in franchise history. The game falls in the primetime slot, with first pitch scheduled for 7:30pm.

The only other game between the teams was on June 3rd, 2021, when the largest crowd in league history witnessed a close loss from the Slammers. They held an 8-7 lead heading into the 7th inning, but WTP put up 4 in the frame to keep the Slammers from their first ever win.

The game was marred by conspiracy: "They definitely tacked on an extra inning. We had won the game, and WTP claimed we hadn't played the 7th yet," former pitcher and current utility player Pat McGarry recalls.

Conspiracy or not, the Slammers feel that this game is somewhat of a must-win this season. "We need to head into the bye week on the right foot. These are winnable games," team manager Zach Wulbert said.

The Slammers only had 6 hits in a close 6-3 loss to Dirty Mike & the Boys last time out. They look to go into the bye with a win in hand and their best run differential through three games in team history.

MONEY MAN, MONEY PLAYS: Center fielder Eric Levin won Money Man of the Game honors due to a couple of spectacular plays. In the 6th inning, Levin hit a key 2-RBI triple to get the Slammers within 2 runs. He also played an integral role in a 7-8-6-3 double play, corralling a ball that ricocheted off of left fielder Ryan McMahon and sending it in to the infield to catch the player who had strayed off of first.

WITH A WIN: WTP would advance to 2-1, after snatching a victory over the Hammerhogs and losing a close game against the American Legion Rowdies. It would be the team's second victory over the Slammers in history.

The Slammers would advance to 1-2, earning their fourth win in franchise history. The Slammers would avenge their close loss to WTP in the team's first season.

BIG 250: The Slammers' Instagram account surpassed the 250 follower mark last week, marking a milestone for the league-leader in fan engagement. "We'd love to hit one thousand," said Chief Media Officer Zach Wulbert.

POWER OUTAGE: The Slammers are inviting all fans to participate in Power Outage by dressing in black! All fans will also be entered into a raffle for a Slammers hat. Follow @oaktonslammers on Instagram and Twitter for more.
