6.27 Game Preview
SLAMMERS LOOK TO GET BACK ON TRACK AGAINST BOB BARKER, AMERICAN LEGION
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS - The Oakton Slammers will will face American Legion for the first time this season. The game is in the primetime slot, with first pitch scheduled for 7:30pm.
The Slammers are coming off of a rough loss to the Fatletes, a game in which they saw a 5-2 fourth inning lead evaporate due to mental mistakes all around.
"I'm pretty sure everyone had at least one error. We were just sloppy, and they took advantage," manager Zach Wulbert said.
The Slammers will need to tighten up their game if they are to pull off the upset over second-place American Legion. The team is likely to face star pitcher Bob Barker.
"It seems like they just single us to death every year," Director of Player Development Nick Sobieszczyk recalled. "Hopefully we can change that this year."
The game falls at a critical time of the season, as the Slammers finish the regular season following the 4th of July bye week with games against teams near the top of the league.
SWAN SONG: Second Baseman, manager, and general manager Zach Wulbert will play in his final game in a Slammers uniform on Thursday. He announced on Tuesday his intention to enter the transfer portal following the game. Wulbert is hitting .429/.467/.500 this season. He has started at second base in 34 games over 4 seasons.
WITH A WIN: American Legion would advance to 6-1. They would maintain their position near the top of the league.
The Slammers would advance to 2-5, earning their fifth win in franchise history. It would be the third different team the Slammers would have beaten. Additionally, the Slammers would have the opportunity to move out of last place with a loss from the Fatletes or Hammerhogs.
DENIM DAY: The Slammers invite all fans to participate in Denim Day by wearing their best jeans, jorts, jean jackets, or Canadian tuxedos to tonight's game. Follow @oaktonslammers on Instagram and X for more.
