Slammers Bring Back McGarry on 1-Year Deal

THE OAKTON SLAMMERS SIGN FORMER PLAYER PATRICK MCGARRY TO 1-YEAR CONTRACT

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS - Free agent Patrick McGarry has agreed to terms with the Oakton Slammers on a 1-year, $0 million deal. Under the terms of the deal, there is a mutual option for the 2025 season.

McGarry played two seasons with the Slammers in 2021-2022 as the starting pitcher for the new franchise. He was known uniquely as the only left-handed hitter in the lineup, as well as the only player to use a wooden bat in the history of the 16" softball league. After a year away from the team, he returns just ahead of the 2024 season.

"Bringing Pat back into the fold was a key to our offseason strategy," General Manager Zach Wulbert said. "We are excited to have his energy, both on the field and in the dugout."

It is yet to be seen if McGarry will use his wooden bat again. "Yeah, I think we'll have to work on that," hitting coach Krystal Harris offered.

McGarry will move around the infield this year as a utility player, since Nick Sobieszczyk has taken over pitching duties. He will wear #9 this year. The Slammers' active roster now stands at 15 players.
