SLAMMERS BEGIN HOME STRETCH AGAINST COURTLAND'S GARAGE
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS - The Oakton Slammers will will face Cortland's Garage on the front end of a home-and-home against the team. First pitch is scheduled for 8:30pm.
Both teams are coming off of a league-wide bye week that fell over the Fourth of July. Both teams are also in the midst of losing streaks, as the Slammers have dropped two straight while Cortland's Garage has lost five in a row after winning their first two games.
"We take that [losing streak] with a grain of salt. Right now, we can't afford to overlook any team in this league," manager Nick Sobieszczyk said in his pregame press conference.
The Slammers will have two shots to beat Cortland's Garage, as two of the final three regular season games are against the team.
BIG CHANGES: The Slammers used the bye week to undergo an organizational restructure following the departure of Zach Wulbert from the team. The changes included six promotions and appointments to various positions within the franchise.
MAKING THE CALL: With many players on extended leave in the month of July, General Manager Mike Leahy was tasked with identifying players in the farm system who were ready for the call to the big leagues. This week, Pasquale "Coach Q" Atteo, Kevin Tunney, and Jeff Beckert all received the call.
WITH A WIN: Cortland's Garage would break their losing streak and advance to 3-5, positioning themselves for a finish near the middle of the pack.
The Slammers would advance to 2-6, earning their fifth win in franchise history. It would be the third different team the Slammers would have beaten. The Slammers would also make their way out of last place by virtue of holding the head-to-head tiebreaker over Cortland's Garage. Currently, the Fatletes and Slug N' Chug also have two wins, but hold tiebreakers over the Slammers.
DENIM DAY: The Slammers invite all fans to participate in College Night by wearing gear from their alma mater, current school, or favorite college to tonight's game. Follow @oaktonslammers on Instagram and X for more.
